This apartment renovation in Sarrià, Barcelona transformed a 160 m² ground floor property into a calm, light-filled family home. The apartment sits in a 1960s residential building near Carrer de Canet. It has four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large separate kitchen, and a 60 m² south-facing private garden.

The building had no original decorative features. As a result, the renovation established a clear identity from scratch. The design focused on three qualities: warmth, durability, and understated material refinement.

Floors and Walls

Throughout the apartment, we laid wide-plank solid European oak flooring in a natural unsealed tone. The texture is soft and quietly premium. Walls are finished in a warm creamy white limewash. This adds depth and subtle variation without disrupting the calm atmosphere.

Kitchen

We designed the kitchen as the heart of family life. Painted warm white shaker-style cabinetry is paired with a thick Calacatta Viola marble worktop. The marble’s rich purple and grey veining adds character without overwhelming the palette. Custom joinery in painted warm white, with natural oak interior shelving, continues the same balance of warmth and refinement.

Bathrooms

Both bathrooms use large-format warm ivory stone-look porcelain tiles in a 120 × 60 cm format, with brushed nickel fittings. The result is clean, durable, and softly luxurious.

Garden-Facing Wall

The most significant architectural change in this apartment renovation in Sarrià was the complete redesign of the rear wall. We replaced it with slim-frame steel and glass doors and fixed panels. This opens the full rear façade to the garden. As a result, natural light increases dramatically and the interior feels continuous with the outdoor space.

Garden

The garden is landscaped to feel elegant and easy to live with. A limestone terrace, olive trees, lavender, and a rectangular lawn create a setting that feels Mediterranean and established. The outdoor space works as a true extension of the home and reinforces its family character.
