This apartment renovation in Gràcia, Barcelona transformed a 65 m² ground floor property into a creative and travel-inspired home. The apartment is in a charming 1930s building near Carrer de Verdi. It includes a private 18 m² patio, an open-plan living room and kitchen, one bedroom, and one bathroom. Although the apartment faces north, the patio introduces open-sky views and brings natural light deep into the home.
Materials and Identity
Materials play a central role in this renovation. Throughout the interior, we laid polished concrete floors in a warm light grey finish. This creates continuity across all rooms and adds a subtle reflective quality. In the living area, an original exposed brick wall was preserved and sealed. It brings texture and authenticity without any additional treatment.
Kitchen
The kitchen adds strong character to the space. We combined deep forest green lacquer cabinetry with open shelving in powder-coated black steel and a white terrazzo worktop with green and black chips. This palette is modern and expressive. At the same time, it maintains warmth and visual balance throughout the home.
Indoor-Outdoor Connection
One of the most important features of this apartment renovation in Gràcia is the relationship between interior and exterior. We installed black steel and glass folding doors that open fully onto the private patio. As a result, the living space extends seamlessly outside. The patio is finished with reclaimed terracotta tiles, whitewashed walls, and dense Mediterranean planting. It works as a private and atmospheric retreat in the city.
Bathroom
The bathroom continues the same design language. Off-white and sage green handmade zellige tiles cover the walls. Their slightly irregular texture adds softness and craftsmanship, reinforcing the apartment’s creative and personal character.
Overall Character
Overall, this renovation aims for originality over conventional luxury. The apartment references the texture and atmosphere of Lisbon, Berlin, and Barcelona simultaneously. It is young, creative, and travel-informed, designed for someone with a clear visual point of view.
